January 9, 2017  “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah

France, 1939. Viann & Isabelle have always been close despite their differences. As the war progresses, it’s not only the sisters’ relationship that is tested, but also their strength and their  individual senses of right and wrong.  In love, we find out who we want to be.  In war, we find out who we are.

February 13   “I am Malala: how one girl stood up for education and changed the world.” by Malala Yousafzai with Patricia McCormick

Malala was 10 when the Taliban took control of her region.  They said music was a crime; women weren’t allowed to go to the market; and girls couldn’t go to school.  Malala was taught to stand up for what she believes and fought for her right to be educated.  In 2012, she nearly lost her life for the cause.
